Trip programme
We will visit the four imperial cities, walk the souks of Fez and listen to the evening Jemaa el-Fnaa in Marrakesh.
We land at 15:20 at Marrakesh-Menara Airport (Ryanair flight FR 5474 from Berlin Brandenburg, 12:00–15:20). We'll take a private transfer to our Riad in the heart of the Medina, be welcomed with a glass of mint tea and head out to Jemaa el-Fnaa square in the evening. We'll spend the golden hour on a terrace overlooking the Koutoubia minaret, then have dinner at a nearby restaurant - our first tagine in Morocco.
After a breakfast of msemen pancakes, we'll head deeper into the Medina to visit the Bahia Palace - the 19th-century residence of the grand vizier, with courtyards full of orange trees, zellij mosaics and carved cedar ceilings. We'll return for lunch at a hidden courtyard café, then spend the afternoon at the Ben Youssef Madrasa - among zellij mosaics and intricate stucco work. In the evening, a festive dinner in a restored palace to the sound of traditional acoustic music.
After breakfast we'll check out and take a private transfer 3–4 hours north to Casablanca. We'll check into the hotel, have lunch by the ocean on the Corniche promenade (fresh seafood), and spend the afternoon strolling through the Old Medina - quieter and less commercial than Marrakesh's. We'll watch the sunset by the mosque overlooking the ocean, then have dinner at a Franco-Moroccan bistro in the centre.
After breakfast we'll step inside the Hassan II Mosque - one of the few active mosques open to non-Muslims as part of a guided visit. We'll admire the retractable roof and the glass floor over the Atlantic. In the afternoon we'll travel 1–2 hours to Rabat, check in and wander the blue-and-white Kasbah of the Udayas overlooking the mouth of the Bou Regreg river. In the evening we'll see the illuminated Hassan Tower and have dinner at a cosy restaurant in the old quarter.
After breakfast we'll visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V - guarded by the royal cavalry guard - and set off eastwards by private car through scenic hills and farmland (roughly 2.5–3 hours). We'll check into a beautifully decorated Riad in the heart of Fez el-Bali, have lunch featuring pastilla (a sweet-savoury pastry with a chicken filling) and take our first steps along Tala'a Kebira and Tala'a Seghira. Dinner will be prepared for us by the Riad's chef.
We'll meet a local guide at Bab Boujloud - the Blue Gate - and head deep into the labyrinth. We'll visit the Bou Inania Madrasa and peek into the courtyard of Al-Qarawiyyin University. Lunch will be at an authentic palace restaurant, and in the afternoon we'll visit the terrace above the Chouara Tannery, where leather is still dyed using traditional methods, as well as the El Fekhar craft district, home to master potters and mosaic artisans. We'll round off the day with dinner near Bab Boujloud.
After breakfast we'll check out and travel roughly 3.5 hours through scenic Rif Mountain passes to the blue town of Chefchaouen. We'll check into a guesthouse, have lunch on Uta el-Hammam square overlooking the surrounding peaks, and set off on a leisurely stroll through the photogenic alleys and fabric shops. In the evening we'll climb 20 minutes uphill to the Spanish Mosque and watch the setting sun turn the blue town shades of pink and gold. Dinner: tagine with local mountain herbs.
After breakfast we'll meet a local guide who will tell us about the town's Andalusian and Berber roots. We'll visit the Kasbah at the heart of the square - its peaceful gardens, ethnographic museum and former prison tower. For lunch we'll head beyond the walls, near the mountain springs of Ras El Maa, a popular gathering spot for locals. The afternoon is free for photos, handicrafts or a café. In the evening, dinner featuring the specialities of northern Moroccan cuisine.
After breakfast we'll continue north, to the gateway linking Africa and Europe - about 2.5 hours by private car. We'll check into a hotel by the sea and have lunch of fresh fish and Mediterranean salads overlooking the port. In the afternoon we'll discover the white Medina of Tangier - Grand Socco square, the Mendoubia gardens and the Kasbah on the cliffs overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. Dinner will be at a restaurant along the wide seaside promenade.
After breakfast we'll head south by private transfer along the coast. We'll stop in Rabat for a relaxing lunch at a modern café in the Bouregreg Marina. After an hour we'll continue on to Casablanca, check into the hotel and rest. In the evening we'll discover the city's cosmopolitan side - a stroll past the art deco architecture on Mohammed V Square or shopping in the fashionable Habous district. Dinner will be at a modern restaurant in the Gauthier district.
After a relaxed breakfast in Casablanca we'll travel roughly 3 hours back to Marrakesh - where this journey began. We'll return to our Riad in the Medina, have a quick lunch on an open-air terrace, then head back to the souks to finish off shopping for carpets, spices and any larger pieces spotted on day one. In the evening we'll venture beyond the old town walls - a table on a stylish rooftop in modern Gueliz, where you can feel Marrakesh's contemporary nightlife.
Today, a leisurely morning at the Riad. After breakfast we'll head off for an authentic Moroccan spa ritual - a black soap scrub, a eucalyptus steam ritual and a relaxing argan oil massage. After a light lunch at a shaded courtyard café, we'll return to the markets for last-minute souvenirs - leather goods, lanterns, gifts. In the evening, a multi-course farewell dinner with a live traditional performance in the grand interiors of the Medina.
One last traditional breakfast at the Riad, finishing packing and checking out. At 13:00 we'll take a private transfer to Marrakesh-Menara Airport - 2.5 hours before the Ryanair FR 5475 departure at 15:35 to Berlin Brandenburg (landing at 19:55). We'll head home with our heads full of colour, the scent of cardamom, and 12 nights across 6 Moroccan cities.
